The Grand Caymans

Unknown

I went to the Grand Cayman Islands. It was beautiful. I got a once in a lifetime opportunity to swim with stingrays. I got to swim and feed them in the ocean. They sucked the shrimp that you had right out your hand. I kissed one and it jumped on my back and gave me a massage. There was this one stingray 3 ft long and 5 ft wide.

We also went to Seven Mile Beach. It was literally seven miles. It was beautiful because we saw so many tropical fish. I swam with sharks and I saw Nemo and Dory. I saw so much interesting coral. I also learned that one would burn you if you got too close out of defense.

In Seven Mile Beach we were right next to Calico Jacks Bar and Grill. I went jet skiing and went on water moon bounces too. What was so inspirational to me was their homes were very small like a little bigger than a shed. That were built out of tin. Tin is very weak so just 80 mph wind could just blow it away. But the Grand Caymians are happy for the little things they have. That makes me realize that you should appreciate what you have. Also when we were on the beach me and my dad actually bonded. On the cruise it was so fun from mini golf to the arcade. This trip was the best.

The Perfect 3 Day Weekend

Unknown

On Friday I went to a trampoline park named Stratosphere near Dover. I went with Alisha, Alissa, Natasha, Sloane, Aliah, Lo, and Kiarah. Alissa came with her little brother named Devin and he was doing flips! He was really good for a 4 year old! There was also this guy that worked at the trampoline park and he was so, so, so good at flips and all kinds of things! It was so much fun, there was a dodge ball area and, there was a foam pit and there was even a long trampoline where you could do gymnastics! It was awesome. We stayed there for like 4 hours! There was music playing so you could have fun and get in rhythm. Before that we went somewhere and got donuts because it was about a 40 minute drive and it was in the morning. But after the trampoline park we went to Dairy Queen! We ate fries, ice cream, and onion rings! It was so yummy. But when I got home I noticed that my ankle was swollen! I told my mom to look at it but the she told me that I twisted my ankle! That was the worst thing that could ever happen because I had gymnastics on Monday and it was a Friday! My mom told me to stay in bed and that was really hard for me because I usually move around. But I wanted to get better faster.

On Saturday I was resting because of my foot and I had dance so I skipped it. So I didn’t do anything. I just sat on the couch watching tv with my foot on cold ice. It was kinda boring but I had fun watching tv. So I didn’t do anything on Saturday.
On Sunday my brother Shota had a birthday party and he was shy so I had to go with him. But it was still fun. The theme was Star Wars. We watched Star Wars but j forget which one it was. And we had to dress up … I was Darth Vader. It was at the Midway movies. I got a lot of candy! So that was my 3 day weekend.

The Tale of Robinburger

Unknown

At the crossing of Burger King and McDonald’s, a cheeseburger mutated into a big, talking cheeseburger. He got attracted to Spirit Halloween. It was closed so he smashed in the place. He stole a bow and arrow. He looked awesome with his bow and arrow. But then Magic Pickle challenged him to a fight. Robinburger heartburned him and shot him with the arrow of food. Magic Pickle turned into magic pickle slices. Then Fantastic French Fries said “your coming with me” and Robinburger said “leave me alone”. Robinburger drowned Fantastic French Fries in vinegar.
Robinburger had a wonderful week. They named a prison mental and child correctional facility after him. But someone had captured him. He thought that McDonald’s was cold but nothing was compared to Robinburger’s cold and stormy dungeon. He didn’t know it but he was in a high security prison run illegally by Forest Fajita in England. Forest Fajita #1 was wanted by the British navy FDI and navy seals. He wanted to know what mutated a tiny cheeseburger into Robinburger and he would not give up until he found out … Stay Tuned for the Next Chapter …

My New Hamster

images

It’s Friday, 11:00am, the 16th of October. My gramma is picking me up to go shopping. We’re in the car on the way to PetCo. We walk in the store and I run to the hamsters. All the hamsters are so cute. It’s going to be hard to choose. Then, it came to me. I saw the perfect hamster. This hamster was shining!
My hamster is black with red on his back. He’s a dwarf hamster but I didn’t know what to name him. In the car going home, I figured out the perfect name. Whiskers! When we got home, we got right to work putting his cage together. Then my mom looked at him and decided to try to hold him… and he bit her! He made her bleed! I was laughing so hard I couldn’t breathe.(Even though I felt bad). She’ll get use to him! When I picked him up and held him he didn’t bite me. I felt good that day! I’m a first time hamster owner. I love my hamster!

I just qualified for Nationals. I had to get under a time of 13:30 on a 3k which is 1.86 miles and I got a time of 11:00.I got second place by 4 seconds behind first place.

We are going to drive instead of fly and it is an 11 hour drive to Kentucky. Last year it was a 12 hour drive to Nashville. We are going to split it up into 5 hour drives.

Last year I was 9 and I finished 24th overall out of 9 year olds. This year I’m 10 so I’m hoping that I will do better. There are going to be around 500 kids, all ages 9 and 10.

I can’t wait to be on the starting line! Last year I was SO nervous, but when the gun goes off I get so happy. You have your parents, friends, coaches, family, everyone cheering for you and it feels pretty amazing.

Imaginary Fred

Unknown

After reading Imaginary Fred in class, I began to think about “the perfect friend.” A perfect friend to me would be someone who understands me, who has a good attitude, and who has a goal of good grades. He or she (it doesn’t matter to me!) will be different than me but we will not argue! But, I don’t need to have a perfect friend because I am already thankful for the friends I have. They are perfect for me already!

The Bike Trails of Cape

images

Do you ever stop and think about a discovery you just made? Some discoveries are as big as finding a dinosaur bone. Others may be as small as finding a penny in a parking lot. In this essay I will share my favorite outdoor discovery in Delaware – the Cape area bike trails. My family and I explore these trails and have made many discoveries there. I plan to keep the Cape area trails special and help preserve the trails for future generations.

First I will tell you how my family and I explore our favorite outdoor area in Delaware. We bike and run on the trails to exercise together as a family. We use the trails as an alternative roadway to get into downtown Lewes and into Rehoboth. A favorite family activity is waking up early on Saturday mornings to bike from our home in Lewes to breakfast in Rehoboth. I can even take the trail directly to my most beloved spot – the Lewes Library! We also go geocaching which is a game of finding hidden objects using a GPS, along the trails.

My family and I have discovered local history, very cool vegetation, and amazing wildlife along these trails. My greatest discovery on the Cape trails is observing the beauty of the seasons. In the spring, flowers and trees begin to bloom and dewdrops put the finishing touches on their new beauty. In the summer, wild flowers are ablaze. In fall there is such a brilliant mixture of green, red, and brown leaves upon the forest floor. Lastly, in the winter, the trail is covered in snow and shimmers in the winter sunlight.

The Delaware bike trails are so important to me. I plan to keep them special and help preserve them for future generations. I will intentionally pick up litter I find along the trails. This will keep the trails beautiful and help prevent polluted watersheds in our beloved areas. I will also encourage others to use the trails whenever possible instead of driving their cars in an effort to decrease pollution. Lastly, I plan to volunteer at organized trail work days. Ultimately, preserving Cape’s trails will protect our environment. I hope that kids in future generations are able to enjoy these trails as much as I do.

Discovering Delaware – Land, Air, & Sea

2140_thumbnail-1024

Do you like exploring Delaware’s special outdoor areas? I do! Some of the areas I love to explore the most are the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal and Delaware Bay from my grandfather’s boat. I also enjoy swimming and hiking in the Cape Henlopen State Park. Another favorite location to explore is actually right at home on my family’s farm in Milton. Delaware is a small State but has beautiful and fun outdoor areas.

Every summer my grandfather takes me fishing, and I love to look for the blue herons along the banks and the ospreys with their babies in their nests high up on poles peeking down at us. When we catch fish we measure them so we know if we can keep them, and you should only take a few. In May we take a special trip just to look for new baby dolphins. We turn off our motor and the dolphins swim by to investigate us.

Most of all, I love exploring the State Park! In the summer, I enjoy watching the big waves of the Atlantic Ocean, digging in the sand for sand crabs, sniffing the salty air, and collecting shells and rocks. We also hike through the woods of the park in the fall. I love watching for animals in their habitats, especially seeing the squirrels jump from tree to tree in a game of chase with each other. If you’re lucky you might see a deer reach up and eat leaves off of a tree.

Another special place for me to explore is my family’s farm. I use a metal detector and search for things like old coins and tools buried in the soil. I love to ride my horses and get close to the wildlife, including wild turkeys and deer. I enjoy smelling the acorns in the fall when we trail ride through the woods on horseback. Winter is also an awesome time to walk through the woods and see the heavy snow covered trees, which seem magical. Snow is great for tracking animals too like deer and fox.

Spending time exploring nature makes me feel relaxed and happy. I believe it’s important to take care of Delaware’s natural resources so that future generations can also enjoy them. By picking up after ourselves and others, we can help keep our community and environment clean and will preserve these precious areas.

IWEN’s Mission To Help Women In Nepal

images

The Inter-cultural Women’s Education Network (IWEN) works to help people in Nepal (especially women) receive education. But on Saturday, a large earthquake hit Kathmandu, Nepal, and IWEN’s plans were set back.
My cousin Katie Phelps is a director for IWEN Canada. IWEN’s mission statement is “IWEN’s mission is to raise awareness of the importance of and increase access to education for (primarily) marginalized females, by funding education programs in Nepal, Canada, and other countries.” But when the earthquake hit, their plans were set aside to help the people affected by the disaster.
